Krista Green - Written Biography
Krista Green's energy and vitality have been evident since birth; she entered the world in a hurry, and has rarely slowed down since. She was delivered in the waiting room at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, BC on February 12, 1975, while her dad was parking the car - making her entrance so fast her mom didn't even have a chance to get checked into the hospital! Her fast-forward mode continued: she walked at eight months old, talked in full sentences by a year and a half, and could read by age three. She entered Kindergarten a year early, and at the ripe old age of four decided she wanted to be a figure skater when she grew up.
Krista was an honours student throughout her elementary and high school life, with an insatiable appetite for learning and books. She was also involved in band, student council, drama and sports. She played soccer, softball, volleyball and participated in track and field, but figure skating remained her number one sporting passion. At the age of six she entered her first competition and won silver - the first of many medals, awards, trophies, and scholarships won at local, regional, provincial, and national events. By the time she was fourteen she'd achieved Triple Gold status within the sport, the Canadian Figure Skating Association's highest level of tested skating ability. From the competitive world of figure skating she learned many valuable life lessons: how to manage your time wisely, long hours of dedication and hard work, sacrifice, and how to handle failure as well as success. Let's not forget what judging in the sport taught her, too, that "life isn't always fair!"
In September 1992 she was accepted to travel worldwide with Ice Capades. A fateful day just one month prior would change her life in ways she could never have imagined, forcing her to decline the opportunity to make skating a professional career. On August 7, 1992 Krista was crowned Miss Kamloops and became the Mayor's co-ambassador for one of the City's most important developmental years. 1992-93 was Kamloops' Centennial Year, celebrating 100 years as a community; it was also the year in which Sport Mart Place was officially opened - the Kamloops Blazers were the reigning Memorial Cup Champions, and the city was in final preparations to take centre stage as the host city for the 1993 Canada Summer Games. Krista's whirlwind year of "official duties" launched her into the media spotlight, extending far beyond parades and ribbon-cutting ceremonies. The real-life, hands-on business education she received provided her with a foundation on which many things, including her current career, is built. She was trained in public speaking for two years through Toastmasters, underwent international business etiquette training and the Superhost Program in preparation for the countless receptions and formal dinner events she would be attending. She gained an understanding of the workings of both municipal and federal government as well as parliamentary procedure through her involvement in City Council meetings both locally and in the nation's capital. During her reign, Krista had the pleasure of entertaining such dining companions as the Governor General of Canada Hon. Ramon J. Hnatyshyn, a delegation of city officials from Uji, Japan, MLAs and Mayors from regions and cities across Canada, and even an afternoon spent conversing with one of Hollywood's favourite actors, John Travolta, and his wife Kelly Preston.
Krista's post-secondary education includes undergraduate studies in both the Bachelor of Business Administration Degree (Major: Marketing, Minor: Human Resource Management) and the Business Diploma Program. She has an Honours Diploma in Travel Counselling and a NCCP (National Coaching Certification Program) Level One Certificate.
While attending university, Krista worked at local restaurants and a retail clothing store, gaining invaluable insights into the operational side of business as well as lessons from a customer service perspective. She also worked as a merchandising representative for Molson Breweries - her first introduction to life at a multinational corporation. The next chapter of her evolution took her to SAIT to become a travel agent; after being hired with an agency in Kamloops (at which she still maintains an outside sales rep position), the long hours spent working were compensated by extensive opportunities to travel, which Krista utilized fully. Her adventures throughout Europe and the Americas not only broadened her horizons but gave her a new understanding of people, cultures and "life on the road."
After years of working extremely hard and overextending herself, Krista's world came to a standstill when health problems gave her no choice but to cease everything she was doing. She was forced to take time off and re-evaluate her life, re-assess her priorities and literally take time to stop and smell the roses. Somewhere during the rat-race existence she'd been living, Krista had lost herself and her zest for life. She's never been one to sit back and wait for things to happen, however, so she set out to rediscover herself and stop merely surviving and get back to living. After eight months of soul searching and medical treatment, she emerged into the workforce re-energized, focused and determined, landing a job as the Marketing Director for a major Junior hockey team in the CHL.
Krista Green was one of only three women to hold an executive position in the entire 56 team Canadian Hockey League during her three year tenure as Director of Marketing for the Prince George Cougars Hockey Club of the Western Hockey League. While women across Canada continue to make great strides for women's sports on the field and in the rink, Krista clearly showed that women can also compete off the field in management and leadership positions in the business of sport. Her success in the industry at the young age of 25 earned her a 2000 Royal Bank Woman of Distinction Award Nomination for the BC Interior, North and Yukon region.
In 2001 Krista relocated to Kelowna, BC, where, in April 2002, she started her first business, a professional organizing firm called Organized for Life. She went on to become the President for Western Canada of the industry association governing professional organizing north of the border (Professional Organizers in Canada) and was named to the National Board for terms in 2004, 2005 and 2006. Organized for Life Canada Inc. went on to become the industry's first Professional Organizing Franchise System worldwide, and then strategically chose to move forward utilizing a corporate growth model, a la Starbucks. Krista has retained 100% ownership of the company and actively remains hands-on in the business as CEO. In 2004 Krista received one of the highest acclaims of her career when she was named by Calgary Inc. magazine as one of the city's Top 40 Under 40 young business professionals.
An energetic and knowledgeable speaker, with over a decade of experience speaking to groups ranging in size from 6 to 6000, Krista's dynamic presentation style captivates her audience's attention and engages them fully in the learning process. Author of the critically-acclaimed book, "Get Noticed. Be Remembered.," Ms. Green spends much of the year traveling the globe, sharing her message with audiences worldwide. When not on the road, Krista splits her time between Vancouver, British Columbia and San Diego, California.
